A new line?

Thank you to all who purchased shuttles over the weekend, they went incredibly fast out of Jane's shop and I can inform you that they were all posted this morning. 'Im in the garage is having a little break from shuttle making as he needs to catch up with some other wood work projects.  He is just about to start to make a baptismal font for one of the churches.  I ordered the bowl for it today and work will commence this weekend, if I am able I will show your pictures of its progress.

We have been thinking of a new line, but need some feedback to whether it is worth making a quantity of them.

Not everyone likes a hook on the end of a pop-a-bobbin shuttle and others prefer to use a post shuttle so we were wondering if a hook on the end of a piece of turned wood is an item that  people would wish to purchase? The picture shows three in purple heart wood (the shuttle on the right of the blog header), they have removable caps on the end with a ring on the other end so that they can be hung from something if required. The item from the tip of the ring to the end of the cap is about 3 1/2".  So far we only have 0.6 hooks, finer hooks will have to be purchased for those who use them to pick up beads, namely 0.4.    Or may be there is another size that you would prefer?   They can be made in a variety woods and therefore will match the shuttles.

  4. I would surely buy one because I don't like a hook or pick on my shuttle but do like to have one hanging around my neck!

  5. I usually use a shuttle with a hook, but I think these would be wonderful to crochet with too. My fingers get sore from rubbing on the rough part where the printing is on the handle of the hook, and these would be smooth and feel good on your fingers. A tiny one for beads would certainly be tempting too. Great idea!

  6. How exciting I too would be interested in the bead size.

  7. Ah, yes - for beads! Would you be able to get .5's and .4's for beading? That would be a sell pour moi!
    Fox : )

    p.s. They are beautiful!

  8. I'd love one size .4 for beads, size 14 for most of my tatting and size 6 or 10 for size 10 thread. I just don't get along with shuttles with hooks on them.

  9. Can I be a tester? ***BEGS*** unmercifully

giggling.. just kidding... but yes I would like them, for crocheting, tatting and beading!

  10. Oh, yes! I currently have a 0.4 and a 0.5. The one I use most is the 0.5 because seed beads fit on it; however, I would like to try a 0.6 because the 0.5 tends to split most sizes of thread. I also have a 0.9 that I use when I'm not adding a bead but just have a join that's too tricky to make with the point of the shuttle.

The wood caps on these hooks are a great selling point for me. The small hooks I have came with plastic caps, which have both split and cracked to the point of being practically useless. I would definitely buy hooks like these.

  12. Jon has TERRIFIC idea and cannot get the comments to work for her... She suggests having two sizes of hooks - one at each end!

I love that idea! A .4 and .5 on the same instrument!

  14. Well, I prefer shuttles with hooks, but I'd buy one of these.

And would you please pass on my thanks to I'm in the garage for the amazing work he's doing in creating the pop-a-bobbin shuttles.

The Zebrano and Black Walnut I bought from Jane this weekend arrived today and have been pressed into service for Jane's latest TIAS. :)

  15. I am so very grateful for all your comments, and I have just contacted someone in England, who hopefully, can supply me with the three most popular crochet hook sizes i.e. 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 (which already used on the pop-a-bobbin shuttles)

Adrian I have passed on your thanks to 'Im in the garage and have just seen your shuttles on Jane's TIA. Like you I prefer shuttles with hooks but desperately need to get used to using one for beads.

Sharren we have not worked out the cost yet but hope that they will not be more than $10 each.

  16. If you make them
    I will buy!
ok I that it was funny but seriously I think it is great. I know LadyShuttleMaker aka Sherry Pence does them in pens. But your idea is good too!

  18. Very interesting idea. As with many other people, I prefer my hook on the shuttle. But it would still be a handy thing to have; I tend to loose the regular hooks. I'm so jealous that Adrian got his new shuttles already. I'm hoping I get my new shuttle by the end of the month.

  20. I just read your comment on Jon's blog about two sizes of hook vs. a hanging ring. Personally, I wouldn't be likely to use the ring, so I'd much rather have one with two hooks. Maybe I'm in the garage could make them in both styles?

  21. I'm going to comment again to say that I like Jon's idea for a hook on each side. I don't think I'll need to hang it either.
