The Penultimate Row and Scottish Thistles

As I write this I notice that Renulek has posted the last row of her Spring Doily.  Just when you feel that you have caught up, another row cleverly appears and the challenge continues.

Other tatters have such pretty colour combinations as they continue to tat their Spring doilies, but my aim was so use up old thread so as to reduce my stocks and I will tell you more about that when I have actually finished this doily. Oh yes and  try and make sure another one gets completed too!

Just before the doily challenge I received a request to tat some more thistles which were to go with wedding invitations.  Here they are on a Harris Tweed scarf which my friend gave to me after a visit to Scotland.

These thistles are now in Australia

Are you the Winner?

Thank you to all who entered the St. Patrick's Giveaway and the lovely comments, will answer some of them once I have posted this.    I have used a Random Number Generator

Well done Janis the luck of the Irish was definitely with you. Please can you e.mail me on popabobbinshuttle@gmail.com with your address and preference for the word on the other side of the shuttle.

Just an update on things in and outside of the garage.  Shuttles are in the process of being made, only there has been a short break to make a birthday present for one of our sons which is this made from mahogany wood

I am still working on the Renulek's doilies and making very slow progress as I keep making major mistakes due mainly to tiredness.

St. Patrick's giveaway

To celebrate today I am giving away a few Irish related  items.  I have deliberately kept them flat and light so that I can get away with low postage. The reason being is because everything I post seems to be international especially when it comes to tatted related items.

So all you have to do is comment on this blog, but you only have just over 24 hrs or the Irish Luck will run out!  I will announce the winner tomorrow evening after 8 pm GMT

Since taking the photograph I have burnt a shamrock on the shuttle and the winner can choose their name or some other words to go on  the other side (although  not too long please)

The 'S' for shuttle is an embroidered Book of Kells letter but is not included in the giveaway.

May the luck of the Irish be with you!

Because it fits!

Renulek's doily keeps growing, apparently her latest row is not the last.  However, it is for one of mine, because it fits snugly on to this round table made by 'im in the garage. It does lie much better than the picture but I kept moving it and so it got out of line!

The other doily is at this stage

I never told you that there is a third one which is also progressing well

Tatting and woodwork

Here is the latest round of Renulek's doily, I have not pressed it too well as I finally finished it last night and hurried to press the piece early this morning.  Hopefully with the next round it will become firmer.

There has been very little shuttle making over the last month or two in the garage, mainly because other projects have been more pressing.  A birthday present for one of our sons (which I will show soon) and the start of some entries into an exhibition.

This is a toy for children or grown ups to play with, the idea is that you put the marbles in the top of the tower and then turn the handle and they drop one at a time and roll into the channel where they are at the moment.
