I was given some interesting material earlier in the year and when I made this bag I just thought no one would want to buy it, but they did! Perhaps the person who now owns it likes vintage cars, I did not ask at the time. I got rather attached to the bag, especially after embellishing it with buttons. Fortunately I do have more of the material to make another one.
In May my brother (also Jane's brother!) e.mailed us to say that he had seen the car that he owned 50 years ago (his first car) amazingly it was still 'road worthy'! The log book also has his name and the address where he was living at the time.
The car then
The car now
We both urged him to buy it back, but he said no. He used to pay me to clean it all those years ago, of course not enough for the privilege of doing it! As you can see there have been some changes made to the car, but the fact that it wasn't scrapped long ago is truly amazing.
I remember the number plate was UD but that's all I remember!!! Looooooong time ago!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, the fabric and the cars, and what a nice post :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a cool car! I also like the bag, but I'm not sure if it suits my style... tatting shuttle fabric, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteWhat absolute fun! How did your brother recognize it?
ReplyDeleteI don't know how he recognised it Michelle, probably because there aren't many around. The number plate had been changed so at one point it had been re-registered.
DeleteIt's quite astounding that he found his actual car! I wonder how many owners it has had! Wonderful photos! My husband is curious as to the year, make and model, as he isn't familiar with English cars.
ReplyDeleteThat's a cute bag, too!
It is astounding and to have proof as well! I think it is an Austin and not sure of the date probably about 1950 or even earlier. It was my brother's pride and joy being his first car and I have a picture that I took of him beside it.
DeleteExciting to find his first car so well taken care of and being shown. Car bag is nice, too.
ReplyDeleteThat was amazing! Whenever I see a blue Anglia, I think, 'that's the kind of car I learnt to drive in', but I wouldn't expect to see the very one.
ReplyDeleteTo come across the car again after so many years and in such good condition, that is amazing!
ReplyDeleteLovely bag, too.
