Hand Dyed Thread

I now have a lovely collection of hand dyed thread but rarely tat with them as I am so frightened of using the thread and then finding out that it would have been better to use it for something else.  All this is made worse when you are unable to get the thread again or if the next batch does not come out exactly the same.    These are two bracelets I made recently which really have worked out great using HDT.

Soon I am going to offer a chance for those who follow my blog to win something as it will mark a particular  mile stone.   There are not so many give-aways on tatting blogs as in the past.  I often wonder why that is, could be the expense of postage or just the fact that people are not interested in them as they used to be?   Anyway I haven't decided what to tempt you with yet but please keep watching!

  1. They are both beautiful! My favorite is the one done in bright colors (I love bright colors.)

  2. Yes it is a shame about the lack of giveaways as they are fun. I must think about one when you've had a go.

  4. I have a few skeins of hand-dyed thread, but, like you, am too frightened to use them in case I run out before the piece is finished! So now I don't buy them anymore.I love your brown bracelet!

  5. Those are awesome!!! :)
I have the same problem when deciding to use my HDTs. I constantly think I should only use them on projects I have tatted before because I am afraid of messing up and having to "waste" such beautiful threads, or that I might run out on certain projects and not be able to complete them, considering that a waste also.

  6. Is the 2nd one HDT by Jess? She seems to have disappeared and there's one of her colors that I'd like more of. Your bracelets are lovely.

    1. No Karen the 2nd is HDT from someone in the UK which I bought some years ago. But yes Jess seems to have disappeared, I have a lot of her thread, some I got when on tat days and others I ordered by post.

    2. Thank you for reply. There are so many desireable HDTS and you certainly showed them off well.

  7. I wish there were more giveaways on tatting too. I feel the same about HDT and the little bit I have I want it to go far. Both your bracelets look lovely.

  8. Love those bracelets! Personally I just have no faith in the post office. I was quite embarrassed when Wendy sent me a give away and it took months to reach me - as though it was my fault! It did eventually get to me, but that put me off participating in give aways.

  9. I love HDTs, and I have quite a few of them. I hesitate to use them for all of the reasons listed above. However, I do know that I can tat one Spinning Wheel glass mat and a bookmark out of one 40 yard skein, so that's probably what I should do!

Jess has been busy going to school and looking for a teaching job. Also, her fiancé has been very ill and in the hospital. Although she hasn't blogged in a while, she is on Facebook if you're interested in reconnecting with her.
