Rag Doll

I can never remember ever owning a rag doll but have always thought they were rather fun with their floppy limbs and big round face. Martha Ess designed this little beauty and it is such a clever pattern. I framed it straight away, no idea why as have no where to put it as yet, just did not want it thrown in a drawer and forgotten about.

I have named her Betty Brexit on the day Britain leaves the European Union, something I find so sad as I for one felt we were ‘better together’,  oh well life moves on.

  2. I use to make them all the time long ago and gave many as gifts, simplicity made a pattern for dolls of all sizes. Where is this Martha's pattern? I have 2 of her books.

    1. The pattern comes from her book Toys for Tatting, lovely book. But for those of us without young children around us the patterns might seem not very useful. However, the child in me has loved tatting them!

  3. I wonder where my rag doll is? I test tatted her for Martha and she was a joy to make. One of those rare patterns I feel a need to do again. Well that’s most of Martha’s patterns anyway. Totally agree about Brexit - a sad, sad day.

  4. The doll is wonderful and I like her name! At least you will now get your blue passport back, although maybe that's small consolation.

    1. Thanks Maureen 'Betty Brexit' was fun to make.
It is a small consolation getting our blue passports back. People voted to leave the EU mainly to save money and to kerb immigration, but my fear is that it
will cost us a lot more in the long run with trade deals etc. But I don't have a crystal ball to look into the future and could be wrong about everything. Although hate the fact that we have broken up with our European allies, always thought we were better together.
