Epiphany

Later on today I am off to a 'Pie and Punch' evening at a very grand house to celebrate Epiphany or the coming of the Wise Men to visit the Christ child.  I am taking with me some Frankincense from Arabia and Myrrh from Oman and leaving the host to provide the gold in the form of chocolate coins!

 I have made another flower chain necklace from Marilee's Beaded Tatting Finery book and I might wear it tonight.

This Christmas I received a card from someone who admires my tatting it was especially chosen for me because of the design on it.

It is a picture of Honiton Lace designed and made by Pat Ferryman, I was really thrilled with the card and I am going to keep it and not re-cycle!

    where on earth does one buy frankincense and myrrh? Gold coins are easy, they are everywhere. Enjoy the evening!

      I was fortunate Maureen a friend brought me back some frankincense and myrhh from the Middle East. Since then the packets have made numerous appearances at church services etc. Very useful items at this time of the year!

    How do you 'light' the myrrh, Sally? I've had 2 wooden chests (small containers, shaped like a seaman's chest) filed with myrrh, also from Oman, but have no clue as to how to light a piece. Even have some charcoal pieces, but didn't work.

    Both the necklace & the card lace are Exquisite !

      We use myrrh in church but it is finer than the pieces I have and it is put in Thurible ahttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thurible with charcoal, so I can't understand why it did not work for you, may be it does need to be in a container with air holes.

    That tatted necklace is gorgeous!! I will have to treat myself to that book!!! The card by Pat Perryman is beautiful.... but there again so are all her Honiton designs!! Enjoy your evening!!

    Love the necklace in black I have that book and don't use it like I should!
    After I saw the frankincense and myrrh I realize that I never posted some that I ordered from middle east and and gave out at church too. It is a wonderful "keeping in the true meaning of Christmas" item.
    I love that card such a great idea!

      The necklace looks stunning on Madtatter, you should use the book!
      I will not give my Frankincense and Myrrh away as it comes in so useful as a visula aid!

    Thanks Tally Tatty. Myrrh can be used for many things including an ingredient for perfume.

    I'm finally commenting on this post! I very much admire your necklace (great photo), and I love the card. It's beautifully photographed and is a wonderful way for the lacemaker to share her considerable talent at bobbin lace! Interesting facts about Frankincense and Myrrh, also.

    I have the pattern on the card and it is on my too do list. I love thinking of the scene of the three kings looking off into the distance and seeing Bethlehem. Pat has many beautiful designs. I have to stop paint lace bobbins so I have more time for bobbin lacing and tatting oh and Carrickmacrossing too.
