Cats and shuttles

So many people have been asking about the pop-a-bobbin shuttles over the last month or so that I have lost tract of where I have seen most of the inquiries!  A lot of shuttles have now been made but I can't find enough time to actually let everyone know and start the process of packaging them and posting them!  In the meantime someone has asked me to make four cats and I am using the pattern from Inga Madsen's book, Tatted Animals.    They want them in size 40 thread which seems very fine to me, I am a 20's kind of gal!

I tried to delay this request for the cats, but sadly was unable to. Have not touched a doily for weeks, which is a shame as I look forward to doing something relaxing of an evening.

    1. Do you know what I was wondering the same thing. The person who requested them is French (but lives in England) and it took a time to understand which cat she wanted.

    2. Yes, you know I tat of course, but a couple time I wanted to order tatting of a figures (like these cats) because i wanted to make a doily where I would add something in between them. For instance like mice to connect them together. But she may just want them for scrapbooking ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

  2. I'm no good at making anything on demand, no matter how kind and sincere the request. I just lose interest in the project. I haven't worked with size 40 in a while. I tend to work with 20 because it works up so quickly. I do love working with 80, though!

  3. Oh dear I am the same Diane. Literally before I knew it the deal was done and the worst thing is working to a deadline. Already 9 days in to the 14 requested so will have to get a move on, you are so so wise. I should have said no, absolutely no from the start!

  4. Four cats in size 40 is a little daunting. But the first one certainly looks good!

    1. It is daunting and it is so fine and I keep going wrong!

  5. I'm also curious about the reason for four cats - maybe four grandchildren? You did a fine job on this one - it is a very cute pattern by Inga and has become a classic, but looks a little tricky, with several cuts and ties.

I also learned I can't tat on demand. It amazes me when I see Etsy shops saying 'Let me know what color you want and how many you need.' I could never do that! Good luck on staying the course! I'm sure they will be appreciated.

    1. Oh no Kathy I don't have four grandchildren, wish I did. I only have a grandson who lives thousands of miles away. Someone in England emailed me asking for the cats, but not enjoying tatting them 'on demand' and it isn't a quick tat either.

    2. Actually I was wondering if the person in England has four grandchildren :) By the way, I still think it's great that the pop-a-bobbins are in demand and still being made. It's a superior bobbin shuttle!

  6. Are you making the cats in different colours? That might keep your enthusiasm for the project going. Lots of work!

    1. Only the colours shown in the pictures, but have had an awful lot of trouble with the blue one as kept going wrong, such as having one leg shorter than the other, so loosing patience!!!
