Singapore shopping

Well a bit of an exaggeration, shopping was extremely difficult when you have at least two men with you most of the time and because of transport, time and logistics there wasn't any opportunity of going it alone!

My favourite place to visit for beads and findings is the People's Park Centre in China Town. An amazing place to buy such pretty things, there are many shops selling beautiful items that you never see in any other place. This time though I resisted  buying any more beads etc because I have too many, and unfortunately there wasn't a particular project I needed them for.  Instead this thread caught my eye.  It looked similar to the Lizbeth thread in appearance but as it was wrapped in cellophane could not even see what the strands looked like, or how thick they were, so decided to buy a reel and take a chance.

Yesterday I tried to tat with it, it is lovely and works well and looks as though it is coming out as a 20 but need to tat more to really find out. Have now kept the bag giving the shop it came from and the original wrapping.  Interesting enough it is called 'stringing material' but when I asked the assistant whether it would work for tatting she had not a clue what I was on about! It also came in a selection of colours, shame now that I only bought one reel!

  1. I understand your troubles with shopping with men and feel for you :) that thread looks great and looks like it has a great "slide" as I call it and pretty color! I think it is made for macramé or beading if it is strong. have fun and great day!

    1. It is really a metallic blue colour, ah that would explain the word 'string' if it was meant for macrame. Thanks for that info.

    1. Sort of a long way to go back and get more, but might send someone else to buy for me!

  4. The only thing I can shop for with my husband is food, then he is helpful as I need someone to carry it all in, otherwise I'm much better on my own. If the price is right you should send someone back for more reels and colors.

    1. Totally agree Bernice, men are good at carrying stuff! Thinking of sending my son back for more reels or his wife may be better!

  5. It does look nice, I love finding new threads. ( and may have to, now that DMC is effectively no more).
Ask your son to go back and buy all the other colours for you, I send my son to Crochet Australia all the time because he lives nearby.

  7. Hi, Sally,
You were in Singapore, and I didn't know! But then, I myself was travelling a lot this December.

    1. It was a very quick visit at the beginning of December. I did manage to meet up with Val Hoo but even that was a last minute arrangement as prior to travelling I was ill. Most of the time we spent with family as obviously we rarely see them living so far away. Will try and remember to let you know next time we are in your part of the world.

    2. It's okay. It would be nice to meet you, but obviously family we rarely see should be our priority! In December, my sister and her family flew in from UK, and stayed for most of the month. We were very busy!
