Amusement Doily

I recently found two metal rings that I must have had for at least 10 years. About that time there was a craze in ‘tat world’ to cover rings of various sizes and make jewellery or Christmas decorations. My aim was to use a series of rings to make a wall hanging,

So as you see I tatted the amusement doily and have nearly attached it inside the ring, however as usually happens with me, I got distracted and the project is unfinished. My tatting distraction was to make some more rainbow earrings.

I have now another distraction, for the first time in years I am actually in the process of designing something in tatting.  It is not a doily, it is not an animal or motif. It is going to take a few weeks and from time to time will probably have to talk to Jane and ask for advice, but I am rather excited about it!

One day I will finish what I started!

  1. I well remember that covering- rings craze! These days I have become practised at avoiding pressure like that and tat only what I want to!
Exciting to read about your new design. Very mysterious as well,I will have to be patient.

    1. Yes Maureen 'tatting crazes' can often produce a certain amount of pressure! Like you I only tat what I want these days. However, I do enjoy seeing everyone else who rises up to the many challenges this craft can offer.

  2. I remember! I have loads of rings around the house just waiting for tatting. I do like the Amusement Doily inside a ring.

    1. Thanks Diane it was sheer luck that the doily fitted and actually it was difficult to photograph, looks better in real life.

  4. That is one of my favorite little mats to make. I use it to teach others to tat. It looks great in a ring. I never thought about it.

  5. It would look lovely handing in a window with the light shining through it.
