Tatting on Paper Clips

One of the many projects that I really wanted to try for some time was attaching tatting to paperclips.  When I met Ellen (Singtatter) in Singapore last year she gave me a sunflower on a paperclip one of her own designs which you can see here.   Whilst in the USA in September I was eager to purchase some larger paperclips as they were not easy to find in the UK.

Over the last few weeks I have been tatting these................

From left to right a butterfly, another of Ellen's designs.  The dolphin, frog and hat all come from Martha Ess's books, using block tatting, and  they fit well on the paperclips.

And here is the packet I purchased in America, we went to Fred's Store, a fascinating place along with the Dollar Stores they were certainly a shopping experience!

I still have a few more tatting patterns to try, but if anyone else has any suggestions of tatting designs that might work on paperclips please let me know.  I might even start a craze!

  6. I love the idea of tatting on paper clips. I actually bought a package of large clips a few years ago just for that purpose. However, I've never actually tried! Maybe you will start a craze... I wonder where those paper clips are?

  8. The turtle and small butterfly from Jane's site have made it on paperclips for me. Almost anything small with 2 points of contact works well.

    1. Jan thank you for your comment. I really must get back to making some more tatting to go on paperclips. Not sure if embroidery will work they have to be fairly firm.

  20. Hi Ellen
I was wondering if you could show me how to attach the Tatting to the paper clip.
I have read all the directions and just can't seem to get it.
    Need your help

  21. Robert I am not Ellen, but basically put your shuttle through the paper clip and catch the thread from behind and then continue with a double stitch
