Diamond necklaces

I am very pleased with the way these necklaces have turned out and now would like to make some earrings to match, but not sure about using the same pattern as they would come out fairly large and not everyone prefers them like that.  Using finer thread would not help because of the size of the beads, so the pattern needs a bit of adaption.

I wore a tatted necklace today, not one of these though, and the check out girl at the supermarket recognised it as tatting, sort of amazed because not many people can identify the craft.

This is the plant that the blossom is from in the previous post it is a Sambucus nigra - Black Lace. This is what it says about the plant "With exotic dark foliage, reminiscent of a Japanese Acer and gorgeous pink flower clusters, this is a truly outstanding elderflower and, with the added bonus of autumn berries, is suitable for wine-making." Obviously I did not read about the 'wine-making bit at the time of planting but have subsequently found out that you can make a cordial with the flowers, it is too late for this year, but will have a go next time it flowers.

Have also finished Renulek's Spring and Summer doilies which I will photograph and let you see soon.

  2. Aha, that's what you were doing with the diamonds!!! They look GREAT. Must have a go at that myself. As for earrings - I'll give that a thought too although I've seen Pigmini's diamonds done as earrings and they weren't too big at all. I'll ask her what size thread she used although, as you say, that won't help with the beads that you're using!!!

  3. This is nice and see what you mean about the the size of beads, I am sure if you use any squareness motif it would work, as long as you use the same beads and color thread! really like nice post!

    1. Thanks Madtatter, as you say any squareness motif should work, it is just the case of working it out!

  4. Your necklace is very pretty, Sally. I like the écru one best.
I am happy that you did not pick the Elderberry flowers, because without flowers, there are no berries; no food for birds and other critters, no seed. And you need many flowers to make half a liter of cordial. But it does taste nice

  5. The necklaces are fabulous! It's quite interesting to see the results of the 'collaboration' between you and Jane! I didn't want to say 'competition', but you do seem to spur each other on, in a very congenial, sisterly way, and we are the happy recipients of that collaboration! I'm amazed how much tatting you are getting done, also completing TWO of Renulek's doilies! That tree is amazing, too! Such unusual flowers!

  6. Mill Hill has Petite glass beads - teeny-tiny, and perfect for size 80 thread, and in most of the same colours as the size 11 - perhaps your son will be able to post some to you? If you can persuade him to go into a bead shop, of course....... the neclaces are realy wonderful, it would be good to have matching small earrings.

Two pretty necklaces. I especially like the two toned blue coloured one! Look forward to seeing your matching earrings!

  8. Wow, fabulous necklaces! Could you perhaps use Jane's related triangle for the earrings? Or the square. I think they're smaller than the diamond.

  9. Thank you all for the compliments and ideas about the earrings, such great ones too.
As for the plant, well I plan to take some cuttings so that eventually I can make loads of cordial!!!!
