Boxed Clever

Okay I'm not meant to be too serious in this blog post, instructions from big sister!  However, firstly you all need to know the meaning of the title 'Boxed Clever', well other than making tatted boxes!   It means to use one’s resources beyond conventional ways. Not necessary “thinking outside the box”, although this might happen but it is not quite  accurate.  Boxed clever or 'boxing clever', means not only thinking outside the box, but re-defining the common thought process itself . It’s the ability to evaluate the current thought process, and replace it with a new, more superior, more productive, more efficient thought process. Does that sound like Jane?!

The pink and green box was my first attempt, there were a few issues when it came to the second side, Jane and I agreed to disagree on which way to turn the work!  She really was calling me 'a pain' at this point, or may be a 'daft mo'!

The second box was made very quickly and this time I used square buttons

If Jane designs another pattern before Christmas I will scream, cards are not being written, sermons are not being prepared and as for housework, well what can you do when there is a thread invasion?

  1. Boxing cleverly sounds as though Brain Cell 3 is re-inventing itself...... I love your pink and green box!

  6. My dad used to use the expression 'boxing clever', I haven't heard it for a while. I do think you and Jane have been boxing clever here!

  7. Such a clever idea has to be a joint effort from the sisters! As it goes, there must be one to initiate and another to respond to that. Heehee, great job on those boxes, Sally.

You can always count on Jane!

  8. It's a lovely idea for tatting and your boxes are lovely, I like your colours. I am stuck on snowflakes but hopefully will try this after Christmas although I have some bits lined up and Jane will be soon starting the TIAS.
I read about Jane saying you were a pain, I left a comment for her saying she was lucky to have a sister, I don't have a sister or brother and there have been times in y life when I would have loved to have one to share the problems of life. She will miss a sister if she did not have one.

  9. Oh, I love this little box. I made a couple of little baskets 25 or 30 years ago (okay, maybe longer), but I haven't thought about a box, which would be far more practical. I'm wondering what weight thread you are using and if you had to starch or stiffen it.

  10. Hi Dora, I used 20 thread and stiffened the box with PVA glue and water when it was finished.
